In order to understand what an online portfolio is,

1. Create a Linked-in account (if you haven't already)

2. Create a Google Site (http://sites.google.com) (previously established and even done some of Mike's other papers within google sites {requires permission to enter the following link https://drive.google.com/drive/my-drive}*)
   • Create a basic CV (complete: for privacy reasons, feel free to contact me in person Michael or anyone else and I will consider releasing personal information to people*).
3. In your Blog:
   1. Describe what an ePortfolio is and how they can be useful in a Digital Learning environment. According to JISC (2008) An e-portfolio is the product, created by the learner; a collection of digital artifacts articulating experiences, achievements and learning. Behind any product, or presentation, lie rich and complex processes of planning, synthesizing, sharing, discussing, reflecting, giving, receiving and responding to feedback. These processes – referred to as ‘e-portfolio-based learning’ – are the focus of increasing attention, since the process of learning can be as important as the end product. In other words, e-portfolios are more than just a collection or aggregation of digital artifacts (Images, recordings, documents, multimedia presentations). They include such things as reflective blogs, socialization and discussion and can record the progress of learning over a lifetime.

• 5.2.5 Add all of your findings to the table below and be prepared to discuss in class:

 Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, and discover new interests by posting (known as 'pinning' on Pinterest) images or videos to their own or others' boards (i.e. a collection of 'pins', usually with a common theme) and browsing what other users have pinned (consider it like Google searching for things, but for photo and image results).

It can be used by educators and students to create portable and flexible custom media-rich learning content. It can also be utilized to share and gain access to relevant image information; perhaps required to better illustrate your educational experiences (hopefully in most cases, it is not too difficult to gain permission for information sourced from these spaces*).

Assessed Activity 5.1 (2016)

• 5.1.1: In your Blog, reflect on the PLN presentation. Think about your personal learning, your PLN and some of the challenges ahead of you. Some questions you may ask:
  • how am I dealing with information bloat, with getting the right information streams for me, with filter bubble?  
  • Information bloat: restricting the amount of feeds and types being filtered through the site. Getting the right information: reviewing and editing the site and looking into placing filters into it (similar to what one does for their personal emails etc*).
  • am I covering all aspects of my PLN, the conversation and the information streams, as well as having an appropriate place to file things and to show my portfolio.  
  • Covering all aspects of my PLN & other requirements: layout, information and other aspects are being adhered to in a reasonable manner.
  • how do I balance use of my PLN with actually getting things done? 
  • Balancing the use of PLN & Achieving requirements: This is achieved through various necessities, such as, time management, research planning, and occasional review of the site and considerations for any appropriate amendments or added features (within various time constraints*). 
• 5.1.2 Map your Personal Learning Network (as you want it to be) with whatever tool you're comfortable with. Put your name, an avatar (with your initials) (Please note, the template has been appropriately added and amended with requirements; not trying to re-invent the wheel, with regards to new and current network learning's established and experiences gained*).

• 5.1.3 Also refer to the wiki page for the added name (use ~~~~) and included final picture of the PLN. 
• 5.1.4 In your blog write a one or two paragraph reflection on your intended PLN and how you think it will give you a learning edge, and include your PLN map.
• Reflection: My Personal Learning Network should provide a  decent learning edge by hopefully making things reasonably interesting and providing various media to interact with and achieve various outcomes and experiences from these kinds of styles and approaches. Some of the material may not be covered or currently taught in main stream learning institutes; so perhaps this also provides an opportunity for an alternative learning edge. 
• A Brief insight to the PLN Mapping: Attempting to utilize a reasonable proportion of the software and applications mentioned above (please refer to the image*) within my PLN should provide a good balance and flow of maintaining interests and providing breaks, as one changes between media. It maybe important to also note the time management and appropriateness of usage for each considered app or media software, need to be taken into consideration; so one simply does not burn out or over do things.
